Where's the volume button on this thing...

My brain is being way too loud. Probably b/c it's trying to make up for the silence that is permeating the office at work.

Today, I'm sitting at work by myself which is pretty cool in someways b/c I don't have anyone looking over my shoulder and yet in other ways kinda bites... i.e. it's dead silent in here. So in preparation of this quiet day, I brought in my headphones as well as a good book to read (nothing on my to do list was pressing). However, now that there's an hour left to my day, I'm rather bored and don't really feel like stuffing envelopes at the moment... therefore, you all get a post.

The last few days have been quite nostalgic for me. The new class of Freshman moved in yesterday at Catholic, making my replacement official; Elena also has officially replaced me as Entertainment Editor (I went in on their production night to give them a hand); and to top it off I'm reading a book called "The Freshman" which is written by and about a professor who goes back to school as a student to try and understand the life of college freshman. Meg even says she saw a school bus go by the other morning... Also, when I was home last weekend, I met up with two very good friends from high school and we ended up talking about people from back then and of course our plans for the future. It was a good time b/c it's very rare to find friends that you can stay that comfortable with even after four years of living no where near each other. But the past week has been a serious dose of the past.

And yet for all the nostalgic thoughts of college and people and the old life that have come up, I definitely feel as though I've put it behind me. I really like where I am at right now. I have my own apartment (that's right it's all mine... Kristy and Meg are my live in servants... ahem); I have good friends that I go out with and watch important television with; I think I'll be getting a job offer on Monday, which means that I will start paying for car insurance and finally be completely financially independent (my parents are paying that right now); I'm actually getting through my to be read pile; the list could go on, but I'm not getting paid by the word here...

It's amazing to me that at 21 (8 hours and 16 mins to go till I'm 22!) I technically have no full time job, no real long term goals, no beau, and no problems with any of this. I'm usually a very goal oriented person. I have a goal and then I go achieve it, but right now not having to answer to anyone or having any real expectations that I've put on myself is in a word, sweet.

For once, I feel like I'm actually getting to work on building relationships with the people around me. And I've come to realize that for me, this is the most important part of life. Because I tend to remember the people more than the actions and having a friend who will invite the whole world to your bday party to make sure it's fun or one who will meet up with you in a foreign country just to hang out for a few hours is one of the best things in the world.

So for now I'm finding myself content, really looking forward to tomorrow night and excited about everything the future holds. It's really a good way to be...

Cheers.
